Two Semesters in Labor
Two Semesters in Labor was a 9-month long performance project about the value and visibility of artists' labor as seen by society and institutions like Tufts University, where the project was mainly being performed.
Between September 1st (first day of class) to May 19th (commencement) was about 38 weeks, the length of an average pregnancy. Beginning the third week of Novmeber (12 weeks being the average point at which a woman starts showing) I began carrying a weighted pregnancy belly, the construction of which is a handsewn collaboration with fellow MFA-candidate and proud dad Willoughby Lucas-Hastings. I carried this pregnancy at school, going to or from school, or doing work for school for the remaining duration of the second and final year of my master's degree.
